Guinea Bissau's President Accuses New Prime Minister - Read Why

Guinea-Bissau President has accused the country's new Prime Minister of overstepping his constitutional bounds by claiming the right to name the cabinet.

This suggests that the months-old political crisis in the West African state is far from over.

President Jose Mario Vas said it was the head of state's prerogative to decide the structure of the cabinet and review the names proposed for ministerial appointments by the Prime Minister.

The comments marked the first flaring of tensions between Vas and Carlos Correia, who was sworn into office in the former Portuguese colony in September in a bid to end a political standoff that had plagued the country.
