The one caveat that comes with owning a gun is that the metal companion has no friend. No matter the cause or reason, the one thing the gun does and knows how to do best is fire a bullet to its target or a stray, and get its job of harm, pain and possibly death, done.
This police officer probably wasn’t privy of this information when claimed innocence over the accidental discharge of his service weapon upon his beloved wife, whom he came home to with no fiasco, no fight, no squabble- just good old home.
Corporal Yinka Oloko, returned home to his rented apartment in Egebda on Tuesday evening by 10pm, and started to undress in the bedroom, with his wife sitting on the bed.
The corporal, while removing his pistol from the holster, was said to have mistakenly fired his wife on the lap.
Despite help from neighbors, Oloko’s wife reportedly died before they got to the hospital.
Regardless of his desperate plea, Oloko has been arrested and detained while the case is being investigated at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
“The policeman has been arrested, and handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, for investigation. The incident involved him and his wife. It was a sort of a discharge rather than a fight. Investigation is still ongoing,” says the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor.
