Worried over the rate
of collapse of bailey bridges across the country, the senate has resolved to
summon the minister of works, power and housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN).
Fashola has been
summoned by the senate, to explain what plans his ministry has in place, to
sort out the issue of the failing bailey bridges.
The senate also
mandated the federal roads maintenance agency (FERMA) to quickly repair the
bailey bridges at ‘ebenyi river’ in ikem in the isi uzo Local Government area
of Enugu state.
Commenting, Senator Gilbert
Nnaji said "the attendant loss of lives and livelihoods as well as other
forms of economic deprivation and losses are avoidable if proactive steps were
taken from time to time either to maintain or to reconstruct such bridges.”
Nigerians expressed
delight at the appointment of Raji Fashola as the minister of power, works and
housing.
The Oodua people’s
congress (OPC) leader, Dr Frederick Fasehun, described the Fashola's
appointment as overfeeding.
