Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has said his government will make good on the promises he made 30 years ago, in his previous term as presidency, to the Nigerian winners of 1985 under-17 World Cup. According to a statement from his spokesman, the players had been promised:
A trip to the 1986 World Cup
Houses
Scholarships
Streets named in their honour
The players did go to the World Cup, but the statement said that Nigeria’s states did not honour the other pledges which they were responsible for.
President Buhari said: “My government will do all within its power to remedy the situation.”
