Sixteen persons have
been killed in a suicide bomb attack on a mosque in Yola the capital of Adamawa
State in north-east Nigeria.
The attack, which
eyewitness said was carried out by a young girl, also left about 56 persons
injured.
According to Channels
Television’s reporter in Yola, the blast happened when worshipers were
preparing for prayers on Friday.
Eyewitness said the
young girl had entered the crowded new mosque in Jambutu, which was being
commissioned, unnoticed and detonated her strapped explosive, killing 16
persons.
Some of the injured
persons are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Yola.
THE UNFORTUNATE PART;
The Governor of the
State has visited the victims receiving treatment at the hospital and he
described the incident as ‘most unfortunate’.
Meanwhile, some of the
residents in the area had protested what they perceived as poor handling of the
situation by soldiers, forcing the troops to shoot into the air.
The attack happened
hours after a suicide bomb attack left six people dead in the early hours of
Friday at a Mosque behind a Magistrate Court around the Polo area of Maiduguri,
Borno State.
No group has claimed
responsibility for both attacks.
A terrorist group, Boko
Haram, has carried out similar attacks in the past.
