Brazil's Anti-corruption Police Arrested - See Why

WELCOME TO DOLAPOO'S BLOG

Brazil’s Federal Police Agent who became a popular figure, appearing alongside several high profile arrests in a sweeping corruption probe, has himself been arrested on charges of facilitating smuggling.

Newton Ishii is a symbol of Brazil’s biggest corruption investigation, and has been involved in the arrest of countless high-profile politicians and executives linked to a kickback scandal at state-run oil company Petrobras.

His case is under seal, so the exact reason for his detention is not known but it is likely tied to a previous conviction.

Ishii, along with several other police, tax collectors and professional criminals, was arrested in 2003 when authorities broke-up a ring that bribed authorities to ferry contraband into Brazil .
He was found guilty in 2009, but until now remained free on appeal.
