Senates On Motion To Support President Buhari's Anti-corruption War

     Despite opposition from opposite parties, "The Peoples Democratic Party", (PDP), colleagues, the motion sponsored by Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha for senators to support the anti-corruption campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday during the presentation of the 2016 budget, was adopted by the Senate.


Leading debate on the motion, Bwacha, decried the serious damage done to the country by corruption over the years, stressing that no doubt, the menace had brought untold hardship to millions of Nigerians living below the poverty line while others have gone to their early graves as a result of pervasive corruption.

After resolving to back the Buhari administration’s anti-corruption war, the Red Chamber rushed the consideration of six motions in less than three hours.

The president will present the 2016 Appropriation Bill on Tuesday at a joint session of the National Assembly.

Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC/Borno South), while contributing to the debate yesterday, made the proposal for senators to carry Nigerians flags during President Buhari’s 2016 budget presentation.

Ndume, who lauded Bwacha (PDP/Taraba South) for sponsoring the motion despite belonging to the opposition, whose members have been at the receiving end of the Buhari administration’s war against corruption, asked the Senate to resolve to show solidarity to the president by carrying the flags at a joint session of the National Assembly next week.

The Senate leader went further to volunteer procuring the flags and distributing them to the senators.

Senator Ndume stressed the need for Buhari to be encouraged and supported to succeed in the fight against corruption.

The motion, however, did not go down well with most PDP senators, who did not hide their disapproval for the symbolic show of support for the APC-led federal government’s anti-corruption war.

When the motion was put to a vote by Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Buhari, he ruled that those who supported the proposal carried the day.
