As the Nigeria Armed Forces takes the lead role in the ongoing war against insurgency in the North-East, the Nigeria Police has disclosed that it needs N8.7 billion to prepare it for a major role in the operation.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, who made the disclosure on Thursday in an interactive session with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, said the sum was the least the Force needs to successfully combat insurgency.
Mr. Arase also said that there an outstanding N57bn due to the Nigerian police that was appropriated but has not been released till date.
On training for members of the police, the IG said all constables presently serving, will go on compulsory training to enable them proceed to the rank of corporal “and only the proposed 10,000 recruits will now spot the uniforms of constables in the police force”.
