Opposition Parties Kick Off Ahead Of Election In Tanzania

A coalition of four main opposition parties in Tanzania have launched their campaign in Dar es Salaam ahead of October the 25th elections.

Opposition presidential candidate Edward Lowassa, who served as prime minister between 2005 and 2008, told a massive rally that it was time for Chama Cha Mapinduzi party to go.

The ruling CCM party has dominated politics since modern Tanzania was formed in 1964, and currently has two-thirds of seats in parliament.

The race for the October 25 elections for president, parliamentary seats and civic leaders is seen as the tightest in the country's history.

Tanzania with over 50 million people, is east Africa's most populous, with economic growth of more than seven percent.
