Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has assured the Igbo community in the state that his administration would work to secure a more peaceful environment for their businesses to flourish in his second term in office.
Governor Dickson gave the assurance at the Government House, Yenagoa, during the conferment of the chieftaincy title of Ekueme 1 of Bayelsa State on him by the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state.
Emphasizing the importance of security in any society, the Governor, who was also presented with a staff of office, said that he would consolidate on the achievements recorded in the maintenance of law and order to engender development, peace and prosperity.
Expressing gratitude to the Igbos for the honour done him, Governor Dickson also thanked them for their show of support to the Ijaw nation when it mattered most, especially during the last presidential election in the country.
Describing the Igbos as allies to the Ijaw nation, he commended them for their contribution to the state’s economy and promised to set a date for a special rally to enable the Igbo community publicly demonstrate support to the present government in view of its voting strength.
Governor Dickson also congratulated the people on the successful celebration of the 2015 edition of the Igbo Day in the state. He urged them to continue to conduct themselves peacefully and come out en masse to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the December 5 governorship poll.
Earlier, the Igwe- In-Council, Ohaneze Ndigbo in Bayelsa, Chief Anthony Uwakwe, had said that the title bestowed on Governor Dickson was in recognition of his pragmatic leadership style, which he noted had resulted in the unprecedented developmental strides in the last three and half years.
