Oliseh To Seek These Five Young Stars

With a win and a draw in two games under his belt, Sunday Oliseh has had a smooth ride as coach of the Super Eagles, but not as glossy as many would have imagined.

This follows the team’s lacklustre performance against the Taifa stars of Tanzania, and a not too impressive 2-0 win against Niger in Tuesday’s friendly game.

Coach Oliseh will now look to going back to the drawing board as he continues the rebuilding process.

He will therefore seek solutions in his midfield and this is why he will have to spread his tentacles for creative midfielders.

Here are five players who Oliseh should fancy his chances of giving a call up.

1. Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City): Although the 18-year-old has seen just two minutes of action in the EPL this season, his qualities as a good dribbler and great passer of the ball are intact. And also with a good goal scoring ratio, Iheanacho could help stabilise the Eagles’ midfield if given the chance.3.

2. Sunday Mba (Yeni Malatyaspor): Mba is not new to Nigerians after his exploits at the 2013 AFCON. The former Enyimba of Aba star has put his career back on track after he joined Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor this summer. Mba has 21 caps with 5 goals for Nigeria and if given an invite, has the quality to stabilize the Eagles midfield.

3. Rasheed Olabiyi (Houston Dynamo): The Houston Dynamo star midfield player has vision and passes to create chances for strikers to score. He has fared well at his MLS team since he joined them from the Nigeria league. He has assisted two goals and has been involved in moves that resulted in two different goals. Olabiyi is capable of bringing the needed change to Eagles midfield.

4. Raheem Lawal (Eskisehispor): The Eskisehispor of Turkey star is one of the top and consistent midfielders Nigeria have in Europe. He could play as an attacker, defensive or central midfielder.
With five senior caps, Lawal deserves another chance to shine for the country, considering the problem in the team’s midfield now.

5. Abduljaleel Ajagun (Panathinaikos): Ajagun has been a great performer for top Greek club, Panathinaikos since he joined them in the 2013/2014 season. He deservedly joined the Greek side after a superlative outing as Flying Eagles captain at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013.
