No fewer than nine hundred Internal Displaced Persons, IDPs among the 12,000 expected from the Republic of Cameroon have arrived Damanre IDPs camp Yola,the capital of Adamawa State, northeast Nigeria.
The National Emergency Agency authority in the state said three IDPs camps have been allocated for the returnees.Saad Bello, NEMA Coordinator in Adamawa State who received the returnees said, that the sick among them would be given proper medical attention.
However, Adamawa State government has said that it will make the camp inhabitable to the IDPs by meeting up with their social needs.The Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency(ADSEMA) Haruna Hamman Furo, stated this.
Aliyu Makano representative of Secretary General of Nigeria Red cross in the state said that inline with the body social responsibility they
have been monitoring the wellbeing of the IDPs right from Cameroon border to Yola.
He commended Borno State government for adequate preparation to evacuate its citizens immediately they arrived Adamawa State capital.The military commandant at Yola IDPs camp Lt, Col. C Ndukwe read riot act to the returnees warning them against bad behaviour.
Some of the IDPs returnees who spoke to TVC lamented over alleged ill-treatment meted on them by the Cameroon authorities.The returnees who claimed that they have stayed for over a year in Cameroon share their difference experiences with TVC.
However,Borno State Government liaison officer in IDPs camp in Adamawa State Aliyu Yerima said the returnees will soon be transported back to their various places in Borno state as soon as possible.He commended NEMA authority for footed the transport bills of the returnees to Yola.
But, the Chairman of IDPs in Damanre camp Modu Gana Boni appealed to the Federal government to enhance their movement back to their various local government.He advised new returnees to be of good behaviour during their staying at the camp.
