The FSS 2020 Programme Management Office in collaboration with Electronic Payment System Providers Association of Nigeria (EPPAN) would from today hold the 2015 annual e-Government summit in Abuja.
The event will end on Wednesday. The two-day summit, with the theme “e-Government: Key to Sustainable Development,” is aimed at influencing the development of standards for the common benefit of electronic payment industry, end-users consumers and regulatory authorities.
A statement from the organisers explained that the event would also provide opportunity for cutting – edge interactions on issues surrounding e-payment and self-service amongst others.
"The FSS 2020 is poised to key into the e-Governance as a major strategy to provide a veritable platform for the implementation of its 25 transformational programmes with view to developing the nation’s financial services industry and ultimately help in realising the nation’s aspiration to be one of the top twenty economies by the year 2020.
This is in line with the federal government directive in 2009 that all of its financial transactions be carried out electronically to ensure transparency and accountability. It also dovetails into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy of cashless economy," it added.
According to the organisers, a key objective of the summit was envisaged to explore how government can manage the process of innovation in the context of public finance and how technology can improve the process of governance, amongst others.
"Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to deliver the Keynote address, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, as well as heads of other financial regulatory institutions and other relevant government officials," it added
